2 Months Old

Our little Laila is two months old as of yesterday... She had her Drs appt and shots today.  Which is why this post is today and not yesterday.  I wanted her statistics on here, but I didn't know how excited she would be to have pictures taken after shots.  So we took some pictures yesterday on her actual two month mark.
Adelaide is a wonderful little lady!
-She is 23 inches tall- 75 percentile
-11 lbs- 56 percentile
-13 inch round head- 92 percentile- still her mother's daughter.
- She is starting to smile more and more.
- I love watching her feet do little dances all day.
-I cannot wait to hear her giggle. I've gotten her close.
-She traveled to 4 different states in two weeks and was still sweet.
-She didn't sleep in the same bed more than once for multiple days on our trip so sleep routines weren't the best, but now that we are home, I'm hoping she gets to rest more.
-She is still a chatty little bug. Cooing and talking all day.
-She does not like being in a dirty diaper and she likes pooping as soon as she gets a new diaper on. But I don't mind as long as she's getting the nutrients she needs and not having tummy aches.
-Laila loves being held by great grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, mom, dad, friends, anyone.
-When she is held, she likes facing out so she can see.
-She also likes to lay on her back on her blanket.
-She also loves staring at her butterfly mobile which makes mom really happy since it was her mobile from college.
We just love her! And I have to say, I don't consider myself a violent person, but when that nurse made my baby cry by giving her the shots, I wanted to punch her in the face.  And she was doing something to help my baby.  I can only imagine how I would feel if someone intentionally hurt my baby! No worries, I did not hurt the nurse.  She was very professional and sweet about the whole thing, Laila's innocent cry just broke my heart.
She's getting so tall...
 Still blue eyed girl...
 Look at that smile!

Top Chef

So before we left on our trip(s), we found out that our friends were FINALLY having a girl after having 3 boys!  So I thought I was SO creative to have a pink dinner- using ZERO food coloring.  We had pasta that had an alfredo mixed with marinara sauce, pink lemonade, Pink Lady apples and a delicious salad that has pink dressing.
Dessert left me a little bit more baffled because I'm not that much of a chef and they have 3 little boys as previously mentioned.  Then I remembered about a time over a decade ago when I took a cooking class.  I had been going through things and had actually found the cookbook we had made in that class.  Yep, it looks like this...

We had made a yogurt pie that I remembered making and so I decided to try it again.  It's totally easy and I actually liked it.  It's frozen which is a beautiful thing in this heating up state of mine...
You just have a graham cracker crust...

And the filling is Cool Whip mixed with Yogurt...

That's put in the freezer for a few hours!  Easy!  Pink!  Fantastic!

Here it comes again...

A few side notes... 1) The new blogger is weird and I think it lost all of the blogs that I have been following. 2) I  have a lot of catching up to do because we have had a wild, fun filled couple of weeks.
To start the craziness off, look what came our way again...

These haboobs' magnitude and power never cease to amaze me.  Especially since AZ's weather is always blue skies and sunshine.  So when these dark, foreboding dust storms come rolling in, it's just phenomenal. (And a pain to clean up after.)  Thank heavens we have our home to stay safe from the storm in.

5 Servings a Day!

We just returned home after being gone for over two weeks.  It's nice to be back home but the weather is starting to heat up!  This time of year in Arizona is not our favorite but there are definitely some good aspects of it being summer.   Cheap golf for Michael, time off from work for Jenn, and amazing deals on delicious produce:

See in this picture are:
  • 5 Pineapples ($1 each) - so delicious!
  • 1 Canteloupe (50 cents each)
  • 8 ears of corn (8 for $1)
  • 5 avocados (5 for $1)
  • 6 bananas (33 cents per pound)
The total was less than 9 bucks!  Now all we need are visitors to help us eat it....

So graceful...

It's always fun when Grandma comes

This last week, we were lucky enough to have Michael's mom here. And because she was here, guess who got to go out on a date?! We did! And I didn't break down too much. It was nice to get out and know that my baby was in good hands. Grandma took a lot of the 6 am shifts which was wonderful! And if she didn't have baby, she was having some good quality time with Sabaka. They went on many a walk or bike ride. Boy does Sabaka miss her! It was so so so nice to have some extra hands! We were able to take care of many errands. So nice. We went to my classroom to see my students' program and so they could meet my little Laila. They were pretty darn excited. It was sweet. Because Grandma was here, I was also able to substitute for my substitute and teach my class on Friday. She also brought baby out for lunch. I liked being back in class and again, knowing my baby was very well taken care of made the day a nice day back.
We had a fantastic week and we are looking forward to seeing Michael's family again in a few weeks in Texas!

Beautiful Baby from the outside in

It is hard to believe that my daughter is now able to be measured in months! On Sunday, our little Adelaide was officially one month old! Thanks to her mom getting two new calling in church, it was her first day of church too.
At her doctor's appointment she measured:
9 lbs 5 oz = 68th percentile
22 inches = 86th  percentile
? I can't remember head, but it is definitely in the 92nd percentile.  She is my child after all. :)

It has been quite the whirlwind of a month filled with every possible emotion! Some things that happened this month include:
- Laila was born after a few pushes and minimal damage. Love her!
- Hospital stay for 2 days- not bad food and lots of baby pics
- Lil lady is a great eater!
- Adelaide loved meeting lots of family from the Ostler side at the beginning of the month
- Transitioning into our new life is A LOT of work.  People said it would be hard, but you really have no idea how hard until you are there.
- I have great friends in the ward who come and invite me to get out of the house.  Both healthy and much needed.
-She still fits in a lot of her newborn clothing, but just barely.
-I will start to say something like, "She normally does this." And then I have to remember, there really is no normal right now.  It will be a certain way a couple of times and completely different the next couple of times.
- Laila has the best faces and melts my heart with each and everyone.
- There have been a few nights of sleeping 4-6 hrs straight and those nights make me feel human again!
- She has pretty good control of her perfect head and keeps working on lifting it. (It's a lot of work)
- Adelaide is a CHATTER BUG!  (I don't know where she gets it. Ha!) She will coo, grunt and ahh for hours on end.  Sometimes in her sleep.
-She has a darling smile and an incredible giggle and I cannot wait to see both intentionally.
- Mom has LOVED having Grandma Shields here this week. (More on that later)
- It's just amazing how much love you can have for such a small thing. It makes sense though because you need that love to get you through the emotionally/physically frazzled moments that's for sure.  But I wouldn't have it any other way.  For now, I LOVE every little snuggle from this precious girl.  I LOVE that she recognizes me and my voice.  I LOVE that her body just fits comfortably with mine.  I LOVE every little ounce of her.
- This upcoming month is going to have lots of exciting events and trips to California, Texas and Utah.  I'm extremely excited and pretty apprehensive about traveling with a newborn.  Any tips?
